Good Night

The hour is late, Mother has laid us down to sleep, yet I do not close my eyes, I only watch the window keep, for you have not yet come, nor given me a kiss good night. Good night Moments later the door opens, a beam of light comes in, I close my eyes, waiting for the touch of bristles on my skin, and you kiss me and whisper in my ear: good night. Good night The door then closes, yet the room is still bright, I fall asleep with the smile of a boy whose heart is light. For this night will be a good night, as henceforth all nights in which I could love you outright. Good night
