Modi'in
She will love you in her memories,
Upon squares of beauty,
Her legs barefooted tread,
The rustling shadows in her ears are full of trees,
Beneath their shelter, the pavements remain cold and bare.
From a fenced-in balcony beneath the bluish bowl,
Strewn with stars that join together, arm in arm,
With purple-colored horizons, lullabies its residents to lull,
And flee the barking of the dogs as from alarm.
Upon ancient hills, towers of dwellings take flight,
A red light gently drifting in skies of darkened hours,
Lit windows do curious gazes light,
While night playgrounds and youthful dreams devours.
Modi’in, do you know your fortune, for she chose you?
Her childhood, like a dream beguiled.
Little daughter of the city, will you return to
Walk barefoot through its streets, you tender cherub child?
