My Choice

If truly I could choose only you, my hours would surely be lighter, and I would not be a regret-stricken man beside the girls around you— some were kinder surely, some truly more accomplished. And if I had truly chosen another, I would surely be no more certain, of course, only longing to return to the hour when I chose you, my chosen, my first choice. Without fail, I would choose you the same, because I could have chosen another nominee. I’d dare not lose you for loss or gain. My choice tells only of me.
