The Poet’s Daughters
I will not blame you
for that you were,
I too once was for my parents,
and they chose me.
I will not be a poet,
not because of you, but because I chose
your lives, your smiles, the simple—

Perhaps you wanted a poet for a father,
I never asked you.
I know what is good for you.
I know what is good for me.
And yet, despite it all,
I wrote.
